Why I Work To Enact Choice In Voting

I have worked to help enact Ranked Choice Voting in Maine beginning well before the 2016 election because I believe that electing government representatives by a majority of 51% of the total votes is more democratic than election to office by a simple plurality of as little as 38%.

State Legislators do not like the democratic majority system of voting, have acting arrogantly in defiance of what the people want and have denied implementation of citizen initiatives for Ranked Choice Voting, year after year for more than a decade.

After Ranked Choice Voting was approved in 2016 by over 338,000 voters, the current legislators, after a year of delay upon delay, voted to, in essence, kill the people’s law. That is why I am now working to veto the legislator’s vote and have Ranked Choice Voting enacted into law for Governor and State legislators.

Ranked Choice Voting is an important election system. It is more than just a more democratic way to elect representatives to govern us. Ranked Choice Voting could end big money power that now controls our central government and could end the duopoly gamesmanship that fails year after year to act in the interest of we the people.
