The Whig party of 2016

On Monday, Dec. 19th, in every state capitol and in D.C. protests against the Electoral College were held and electors were urged to vote against Donald Trump. About 150 peaceful demonstrators were chanting and singing songs and a dozen or so had the chance to speak. Some were funny, some were serious, one was a poem. One Colby student gave a well delivered powerful speech and later told me he had never spoken publicly before. A teacher from Camden related that as a Christian he was dismayed so many of his faith voted for such an immoral man being surrounded by so many at that moment, who also believe in decency and morality, gave him hope for the nation.

This nationwide event was organized in seven days and thanks to the internet we have the ability now to influence public opinion like never before. Even though Trump was elected anyway our voices were heard. We will not let these terrible events happen in silence.

One of Maine's electors voted for Bernie Sanders and tragically Maine's Democratic Party invalidated his vote and switched it to Hillary Clinton. This is further proof that our states Dem leadership is as elitist and unethical as the DNC. It is time for the Democratic party to go the way of the Whigs of the 1800’s.
